Abstract:

Zoonotic spillover is the transmission of pathogens from animals to humans. This talk will provide a broad overview of statistical methods developed, and in development, to understand the mechanisms that lead to elevated levels of viral shedding in reservoir hosts and increased likelihood of spillover into intermediate hosts or humans.

The talk will touch on a wide variety of statistical methods and approaches including Bayesian network models, pooled sampling, Gaussian processes, adaptive sampling, and animal movement models.
