Abstract: In this talk, I will share research from my sabbatical exploring different stances to explore and understand how future teachers engage in modeling tasks. Drawing on data from several university site visits, I will explore findings related to developing and enacting modeling tasks and their role in fostering teachers as learners. Themes will include understanding the role of targeted teaching practices within the modeling cycle, exploring task design with respect to socio-critical mathematical modeling tasks, and reflections on teachers’ emotions and self-efficacy across the modeling cycle.
