Talk by Dr. Tianyu Zhang (Dept. of Mathematical Sciences, MSU)

2/13/2020  3:10-4:00pm  Wilson Hall 1-144

Abstract:

Activated sludge is widely used in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and its activity can be represented by its oxygen uptake rate (OUR). The respirogram space contains different OURs measured. under different environmental conditions. In the first half of the talk, we will discuss the use of mathematical models to build the connections between the respirogram space and the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the activated sludge system, as well as developing respirogram-based approach for the management of WWTPs.

In the second half of the talk, we will analyze the time series of effluent chemical oxygen demand (COD) and ammonia (NH3-N) concentration by Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA) method and spectral analysis..
