Coming Full Circle with Theoretical Frameworks
Talk by Dr. Jinfa Cai (Math Dept., University of Delaware)
12/4/2019 Wilson Hall 1-144 12:00-12:50pm
Abstract:
The Mathematics Education Seminar has had a semester-long focus on the role of theoretical frameworks in mathematics education research. For our final fall seminar, we will be joined by Dr. Jinfa Cai, past-editor of Journal of Research in Mathematics Education and editor of the Compendium for Research in Mathematics Education. As editor of JRME, Dr. Cai authored an editorial series on the role of theory in mathematics education research. We discussed the first three articles of this series in our initial fall seminar. On December 4, Dr. Derek Williams will facilitate a discussion with Dr. Cai based on his final article in the series (Cai et al., 2019) as well as a professional critique in For the Learning of Mathematics presented by Niss (2019) and responded to by Cai & Hwang (2019). The structure of the seminar will include time for open conversation and opportunity to learn from Dr. Cai.
