Dr. Lisa Davis

LANL Scientist Mentor

Dr. Tamra Heberling, X-Theoretical Design Division

Garrett is working with researchers at Los Alamos National Lab. His BIG-inspired project focuses on Rayleigh Taylor instabilities of various spherical arrangements.  Three different configurations are considered; one is a fluid sphere embedded in an infinite elastic solid, the second is an elastic solid sphere embedded in an infinite fluid, and the third is an elastic solid sphere embedded in a different elastic solid.  He is particularly interested in analyzing the growth rate of various spherical harmonic disturbances of the interface.

Dr. Mark Greenwood

MTSI Faculty Mentor

Dr. Cecily Ryan, Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Dept.

MTSI Lab Mentor

Seth Kane

Rachel spent her lab rotations working with Dr. Ryan and Seth Kane in assessing the viability of bio char as filler material in biodegradable ploymers.  With plastics being of a global concern, bio char looks like a promising alternative to carbon black.
