Pursuing a Degree in Arts, Humanities, and/or Certain Social Sciences?

Pursuing a Degree in STEM, Business, Health and/or Certain Social Sciences?

Students who decide to seek a degree in the fields of STEM, Business, Health and/or Certain Social Sciences are most often required to take a series of math courses.

One starting point for many students is M 121 (College Algebra).  To qualify to take this course, students must have one of the following scores:

  • An ACT score of 23
  • An SAT score of 560
  • A combination of an ACT score of 21-22 and a High School GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • A combination of an SAT score of 530-550 and a High School GPA of 3.5 or higher

Other level 300 courses that require an above listed qualification include STAT 216 (Introduction to Statistics) and M 132 (Numbers and Operations for K-8 Teachers).

If a student does not meet any of these qualifiers, a student may be able to enroll in M021/121 (College Algebra Co-Req).  This course is equivalent in content to M 121Q but provides extra support for students at a lower level of preparedness.  To qualify to take this combination of courses, students must have one of the following scores:

  • An ACT score of 21
  • An SAT score of 530
  • A combination of an ACT score of 20 and a High School GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • A combination of an SAT score of 520 and a High School GPA of 3.5 or higher

M 121 is a starting point to the Calculus Series that then includes M 151 (Precalculus) and M171 (Calculus).  M 121 is also the pre-requisite to M 161 (Survey of Calculus).  M 161 is not a pre-requisite to other math courses.
