Ph.D. Programs Emphasizing Mathematics Education
At Montana State University, there are two paths to a doctoral degree emphasizing mathematics education.
- Path #1 is designed for candidates with research interests focused on mathematics teaching and learning with a strong component of graduate-level mathematics. This path leads to a Ph.D. in Mathematics with an emphasis in Mathematics Education from the Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Letters and Science. Graduates of this program generally seek employment in a university Mathematics Department.
- Path #2 is designed for candidates with research interests focused on mathematics teaching and learning with a strong component of curriculum and instruction. This path leads to an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a 15 credit focus in Mathematics Education from the Department of Education in the College of Education, Health, & Human Development. Graduates of this program generally seek employment in a university Education Department.
